Research and Development
The people of ICM, Inc., are driven to increase value for our customers by finding new, creative ways to make ethanol production more efficient and cost-effective. In fact, our research and development team leads the industry in developing revolutionary new equipment and process technologies.
To support our efforts, we’ve constructed a state-of-the-art research facility at our Colwich, KS, headquarters, staffed by industry experts. We’ve also partnered with LifeLine Foods to construct a pilot ethanol facility, including a state-of-the-art laboratory in St. Joseph, MO.
We’re currently researching:
Process Optimization
ICM plants are already the most efficient in the industry, using about 25% less pipe, and 10% less energy, as well as experiencing 5% less downtime than other plants. We’re working on ways to make plants even more efficient.
Alternative Fuel Sources
Our first coal-fired plant, CORN LP, recently went online. And, we have additional coal-fired facilities under construction.
New Product Development And Additional Value-Added Opportunities For Co-Products
ICM researchers are looking for ways to make ethanol production even more profitable for plant owners and investors. One of the ideas we’re researching involves dry fractionation of the corn kernel prior to fermentation, possibly creating co-products beyond carbon dioxide and distillers grains.
Self-Sufficient Ethanol Plants
We’re researching ways to help plants produce enough power to run the entire facility.
Synergistic Partnerships With Other Industries
In addition to our relationship with LifeLine Foods, we’re always exploring synergistic partnerships with other industries. For example, we’ve added ethanol production capacity to existing power plants and grain processing facilities.
