
Accounting Intern
Position Purpose
The accounting intern will support the finance department of ICM and related entities. The role will involve administrative assistance, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and project cost accounting functions.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Send partial and final lien waivers to vendors. Follow up to ensure appropriate signatures are obtained.
- Provide support filing sales, use, gross receipts, and contractor’s excise tax returns.
- Assist with reviewing and accruing tax liability on open projects.
- Assist with or prepare monthly general ledger journal entries and/or account reconciliations. Maintain other schedules as necessary.
- Provide support in documenting and pursuing sales and use tax refund opportunities with the applicable state taxing authority.
- Maintain exemption certificate files. Provide tax status and exemption certificate as needed for accountant and vendors.
- Maintain employee purchase accounts for tax liability and reconcile at the beginning of each month.
- Provide support for AP in receiving, scanning, and indexing all incoming invoices into ERP and paperless filing system. Route for approval.
- Provide support for cost accountants in updating reports, scanning contracts, and completing other tasks as requested.
- Provide support to general ledger group in updating inventory reports and performing tasks related to financial statement preparation.
- Provide backup assistance to finance department as requested and as opportunities arise which meet employee’s educational goals.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High school diploma required
Required Knowledge and Experience
- GL/Accounting experience preferred
- Exceptional business math skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of general office equipment required
Skills/Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid customer service abilities
- Sound reasoning and decision-making skills
- Strong attention to detail
Physical Activities and Requirements of This Position
- Ability to sit and view computer screen for long periods of time
- Must be able to speak and listen clearly
- Fine visual acuity required for reading accuracy
